(i.e: Shizumaru and Takechiyo.) * TheBigGuy: Crossovers tends to portray him as this, being someone who is slow in combos, but deals massive damage. * BigBrotherInstinct: Usually in the backstories of other characters that he will hardly interact with outside of endings. Subverted in the DistantFinale, where the "torch" was passed to Kuki Seishiro. * AnimeHair: And ''how''! It even gets '''bigger''' every game. * AmbiguouslyBrown: In some of his appearances, especially in Bust/Rasetsu mode in ''III'', ''IV'', ''64'' games and especially in his older persona in DistantFinale. From ''II'' on, one of his specials involves whacking you with it, too! ** "Alcoholic" is even the title of his ''SSIII'' theme. * TheAlcoholic: You never see him in a game without a jug of sake. The only time it's averted was in ''Warriors Rage 2'', where Yuga completely dominated him. The main bad guys mostly got to him first or got challenged by him (or targeted him in the first place), and he would win, accidentally saving the world along the way.
* AccidentalHero: Due to him being the BoisterousBruiser hero who's in only for a good fight, he's not at all concerned with SavingTheWorld. Oh, and he's got a YamatoNadeshiko lover named Oshizu.

In his travels to find worthy opponents, he finds himself entangled with many events, saga in which they first by Amakusa, then adopting Shizumaru, helping to tame his demonic side, eventually later being targeted by Mizuki for his soul, and then getting captured and enslaved by Yuga, until someone (either Nakoruru, or even Genjuro) breaks him free and later, makes an inspiration for Takechiyo in his quest to fight Golba. After said loss, he studied under Nicotine alongside Genjuro, and ends up being chosen as the school's successor much to Genjuro's dismay. As a young man, he once lost against Jubei and gets pumped up to get stronger. Likes to booze off with drinks and of course, fight.
